Eee pad tablet Transformer 101 van ASUS

 

Deze prachtige Android tablet prijkt nu op mijn tafel, en is een vast onderdeel van de familie. OS is Android 3.0 HonneyCumb.

De Asus Eee Pad met 10-inch capacitive touchscreen display maakt gebruik van Android als besturingssysteem. Heeft daarnaast de befaamde Nvidia’s Tegra II processor. Dit is een dualcore ARM-processor, gebaseerd op de Cortex A9-kern die speciaal ontwikkeld is voor Android smartphones en tablets. Het tablet heeft een dikte van 12,2mm en weegt 675 gram.

Ik koos voor de 16GB uitvoering, let wel, deze tablet PC heeft geen 3G aan boord. Dus alle verbindingen met het net worden gelegd door WiFi. Er zijn trouwens weinig (Samsung P1000) tablets op de markt die kunnen gebruikt worden als mobieltje en 3G voor data connectie. Dus als je 3G wil gebruiken dan moet je ook een data abonnement (heb ik) hebben bij je provider en je SIM laten dupliceren. Of ga je die telkens aanbrengen als je de tablet gaat gebruiken?? Ook de prijzen in Belgie voor datavolumes zijn nog betrekkelijk hoog.

De tablet is de aanvulling op mijn smartphone (ook een Android 2.3) en daar zit de SIM kaart in. Upgrade naar Android 3.0 wordt deze maand

De verschillende schermen zijn instelbaar, hieronder mijn Social Media HomePage, met alle tools in handbereik.

Applicaties die ik na een weekje heb geinstalleerd op de tablet. Webbrowser, mail en Outlook Sync zitten standaard op deze machine. Doordat het een dualcore processor is, kan hij gemakkelijk de wacht aanzetten van zijn concurrenten.

Dit is mijn WORK HOMEPAGE. Mail en Agenda netjes bij de hand en via pushmail altijd up-to-date.

Na een dagje op kantoor heeft de batterij nog altijd 69% van zijn capaciteit ter beschikking. Leuk is dat. Tenslotte blijf ik continue (niet mogelijk met de Apple Ipad) een WIFI connectie onderhouden en worden ‘s morgens mijn mails aan de ontbijttafel gescreend en beantwoord. Overdag hou ik een oogje in het zeil over de binnenkomende mails en mijn wisselende agenda.

Waarom gekozen voor Android?
Mijn ervaringen met Android en smartphone waren zo positief, dan ik ook voor deze tablet gekozen heb voor Android. Tenslotte kan je kiezen uit Windows7, Mac OS en Android. Mail syncronisatie gebeurde ook al op de smartphone.

De Eee Pad Tablet van Asus bevat ook 2 ingebouwde camera’s om teleconferenties op te zetten. En heeft ook een zeer hoge connectiviteit (USB connectie) en je kan het geheugen uitbreiden (niet mogelijk met de Ipad) door een miniSD geheugenkaartje. De miniHDMI zit ook op mijn JVC videocamera. Voor sommige onder ons lijkt het wel een speeltje, maar voor mij is het een handig gereedschap. Handig opgeborgen in een leren hoes, heb je zo je agenda (ogenbliklijk) bij de hand.

Volgende stap: virtuele desktop (PC bedienen vanop je tablet). Is mogelijk. Zo deed ik de test en was het zelfs mogelijk om HD films (satelietontvangst) te streamen naar mijn tablet. Ook het overnemen van mijn PC scherm was een makkie. Maar gaat dit ook met de werkPC. Wordt momenteel onderzocht

Android Market
Er zijn heel veel toepassingen beschikbaar op de Android Market. Maar het aantal voor de tablet is momenteel beperkt. Maar daar zal kortlings ook wel veranderen in komen. De snelheid waarmee APPS worden gelanceerd is fenomenaal. Elke week zijn er tientallen, nieuwe applicaties (veelal gratis) beschikbaar. De lage aanschafwaarde is ook geen drempel om dit machientje te voorzien van de nodige applicaties.

Kite Antenna–(Bleeder is ready)

Static Discharge from antenna can do damage to your gear. So we need a way to discharge the static charge which can build up in the antenna.

The wire antenna can act as a capacitor against ground. Dry air breakdown voltage is about 33kV/cm with smooth surfaces. Test with other wire antennas shows, with a gap of about 2 mm, the potential difference was in the order of 6kV. Build up 1-2 times a second.

The bleeder resistor across the antenna and ground prevents the charge building up to any significant level. The bleeder resistance should be non-inductive and has to be large enough not to add any reactance and have no effects for the antenna characteristics.

Tnx Patrick (ON4CLP) who got the right components on the shelf. Everything was build in an aluminum enclosure. We used 4 x 1mOhm resistors combined with a gas discharger. Like you can see on the picture above, the antenna feed will be connected to the red connector and ground will be connected to the black connector. For the ground we have a copper tube of 80 centimeters with cable towards the connector.

On the back of the enclosure, you will find a PL-connector, we will use a coax cable to feed the MFJ – Antenna Tuner Verso II.

PS: The antenna bleeder can not be used as a LIGHTNING protector. It only will discharge our wire, while he is hanging on the kite. Due to the wind, and air conditions, static charge could build up. Even dry & cold air is more dangerous then when we have some moisture

Kite Antenna Project

The idea of the Kite Antenna is still in the CONCEPT phase.

We know yet that we would like to bring a wire of 41 meters in vertical position in the air. We bought a Kite and did already some test flights. Without wind and also without success

1 May 2011, location Nokia Siemens Networks, Herentals.

Last flight on 1st of May, we broke one front spoon (carbon), so we went next Saturday to the shop to get some carbon and also fiberglass spoons.

But during this flight we were able to put a GPS logger  (Agps 747A+), connected on the Kite (thanks Andre ON2ADR). We could measure the height during the flight. The final result was 70 meters, so good enough to connect a wire of 42 meters

Meanwhile the Antenna Bleeder is ready thanks to Patrick (ON4CLP) for the fast manufacturing of the concept we had in mind. Fixing the carbon spoon and we are ready for take of next time. Then we will add some measurements we did for the antenna. There are a lot of parameters we would like to know before we are starting to transmit on HF.

Bokrijk Openlucht Museum Panoramas

Het was weer van dada. Uitzonderlijk mooi weer, 24 april, België, hoogste temperaturen van heel Europa

Dus op Paasdag een uitstapje gemaakt naar Bokrijk, het Openlucht museum, onderdeel van het provinciaal domein: BOKRIJK. Het was bloedwarm, maar er was amper een wolkje te bespeuren. Misschien was er zelfs nog teveel licht voor het goede werk.

New panoramas created: Villers-la-Ville (Belgium)

Lately I had a lot of fun creating new panoramas. On the 2nd of April I visit VILLERS-LA-VILLE, a small city in the French speaking part of Brabant, Belgium. It was an exceptional warm day with a lot of sunshine.

The Abbaye de Villers (Villers Abbey), situated in the commune of Villers-la-Ville in grounds of more than 36 hectares, is a destination site imbued with history and emotion.

It was founded in the 12th Century, under the aegis of Saint Bernard. Today, its majestic ruins give a marvellous idea of the life of monks of the Cistercian Order. After the French Revolution, it was sold to a merchandiser. Nowadays it is a protected landsccape.

The panoramas above were constructed out of 3-6 pictures, taken with my Canon 500D on low resolution.

Of course, I tool also a lot of shots with my Samsung WB650. This compact camera goes every where I go

So the next panoramas where created by this compact. You will notice that there is some abbreviation, and taking the shots went not so fast. But who cares? It was sunny and I was in good company.

Vienna, Austria

My visit, end of  March was an enriched experience of culture and work environment.

My compact friend with GPS (Samsung WB650) was accompanying me on this trip.

So it was time to make some stunting panoramas, especialy of the Nokia Siemens Networks building in Vienna. On the two days workshop, I took the time before breakfast, to make some nice pictures. Before the sun turns and would shine right in my face

Vienna is a rich cultural city with lot of monuments and nice people. You should visit the city and you would experience a lot of BIG moments. For me, the trip was a success, not only for the nice panoramas but also for the warm contacts with my NSN colleagues. So it would not surprise me that Vienna becomes ones more the Cultural City of Europe. If you plan a city trip, take care that you have a guide reserved! I got personal guidance of Gerhard, he was supporting me for 3 days. This became a glorious moment in a period of fine outcomes for our work. Thanks Gerhard for the detailed preparation work.  He brought us back in the ages of the Emperor and the actual reality
